Stray Dog Terror in Muzaffarpur: Toddler Mauled to Death in Rajapunans Village
A one-and-a-half-year-old girl, Rukmani Kumari, was tragically mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Rajapunans village, Muzaffarpur. The incident has sparked massive public outrage against the Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation’s negligence and the district administration's failure to curb the rising canine terror that has recently left forty others injured in the region.
According to family members, the young victim was playing outside her home when a pack of more than half a dozen stray dogs suddenly descended upon her. The aggressive animals launched a coordinated assault, Mauling the child severely before villagers could intervene. Although the villagers managed to chase the dogs away after hearing the commotion, the damage was catastrophic. Rukmani, the only child of Mukesh Kumar Sahni, succumbed to her grievous injuries while being rushed to the hospital, leaving her family devastated by an unimaginable loss.
Local residents report that the terror of stray dogs has been steadily rising in the area, transforming the neighborhood into a danger zone. Despite the growing threat, the district administration has reportedly failed to take any corrective measures. The atmosphere in the village is now defined by panic, with parents no longer feeling safe enough to allow their children to play even at their own doorsteps. Public outrage is mounting, particularly following recent reports that stray dogs in Muzaffarpur had previously bitten and injured forty people, highlighting a systemic failure to address the canine crisis.
The administrative negligence is further underscored by the state of the Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation’s resources. Residents pointed out that the specialized vehicle acquired for catching stray dogs remains stationary at the Municipal Corporation office, serving as little more than a showpiece rather than being deployed on the streets. As the Municipal Corporation continues to stall on taking action against the stray dog population, the anger of the public toward city officials has reached a breaking point, demanding immediate accountability for the loss of a young life and the ongoing threat to public safety.
